Zohran Mamdani was a 33-Years old Indian-Origin politician, has won the Democratic primary for New York City mayor, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo.
He full name is Zohran Kwame Mamdani was born in Kampala, Uganda on October 18, 1991. His father Mahmood Mamdani is Indian-Ugandan and postcolonial studies professor at Columbia University form Indian Muslim descents.

His mother is Mira Nair, an Indian-American filmmaker of Punjabi descent. His father gave him the middle name Kwame after Kwame Nkrumah, a revolutionary and the first prime minister of Ghana.
Addressing to his victory party , Zohran vowed to work towards making the cut more affordable and “be a mayor for every New Yorker.”
“The power belongs to the people,” he said.
“I will be the mayor for every New Yorker, whether you voted for me, for Governor Cuomo, or felt too disillusioned by a long-broken political system to vote at all. I will work to be a mayor you will be proud to call your own,” Mamdani told supporters.
“Tonight is his night. He deserved it. He won,” Cuomo told his supporters.
