Afghan Foreign Minister Says “Not Even One Metre” will be given to US over Bagram base

Kabul: Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has firmly rejected US President Donald Trump’s proposal to reclaim control over Bagram Air Base. He declared, “not even one metre of Afghan land will be given to the Americans.”

The statement came during an interview after Trump said Washington intends to regain the base, which has been under Taliban control since the US withdrawal in 2021.

Muttaqi also issued a separate official statement highlighting Afghanistan’s commitment to a “balanced, economy-orientated foreign policy” grounded in Islamic principles and mutual interests with all nations.

He emphasized that Afghanistan’s independence and territorial integrity remain non-negotiable in any engagement, including with the United States.

He recalled the Doha Agreement of February 2020, which stipulated that “it will not use or threaten force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Afghanistan, nor interfere in its internal affairs.”

In response to Trump’s threat that “bad things are going to happen” if Afghanistan does not comply with his demand for Bagram, Afghan officials called for the US to adopt a policy of realism and rationality instead of repeat past approaches.
