London: Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were taken into custody during a late-night operation at their residence, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
The sources said the couple was asleep when US forces entered the bedroom and detained them during the raid.
The operation was carried out in the early hours, catching them off guard.
A US official said the raid was conducted by the US Army’s elite Delta Force and was completed without any American casualties.
No immediate details were released about where Maduro and Flores were taken following their capture, and there was no official response from Venezuelan authorities at the time of reporting.
