California : Apple Inc. has confirmed that Tim Cook will step into the role of executive chairman, while John Ternus will become the company’s next chief executive officer starting September 1, 2026.
The transition was unanimously approved by Apple’s Board of Directors as part of a long-term succession plan and decided to announces new CEO named John Ternus.
Tim Cook will continue as CEO through the summer, working closely with Ternus to ensure a smooth handover before taking on his new responsibilities, which will include engaging with global policymakers.
“It has been the greatest privilege of my life to be the CEO of Apple… I love Apple with all of my being.” He added strong confidence in his successor, stating, “John Ternus has the mind of an engineer, the soul of an innovator, and the heart to lead with integrity… he is without question the right person to lead Apple into the future.” Cook said
“I am profoundly grateful for this opportunity to carry Apple’s mission forward… I am humbled to step into this role, and I promise to lead with the values and vision that have come to define this special place.” Ternus said
Ternus, who joined Apple in 2001, currently serves as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering and has played a key role in developing several flagship products across iPhone, Mac, iPad, and AirPods.
His leadership has been instrumental in advancing Apple’s hardware innovation and sustainability efforts.

Tim Cook, who became CEO in 2011, oversaw a period of significant growth, expanding Apple’s global presence and leading the launch of major products and services.
Under his leadership, the company’s market value surged dramatically, while its focus on privacy, sustainability, and innovation strengthened its position in the global technology industry.
The leadership change marks a new chapter for Apple as it continues to focus on innovation, growth, and long-term strategic development under its next generation of leadership.
