# Apple Announces September 9 Event; iPhone 18 Pro and Foldable iPhone Ultra Expected

**CALIFORNIA **: [Apple ](https://alitoday.com/tag/apple/)has officially scheduled a product launch event for September 9, 2026, where the company is widely expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone alongside the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

The event, titled '[Surprise and Shine](https://www.apple.com/in/apple-events/),' is set to begin at 10 a.m. Pacific Time at Apple Park in Cupertino, California and will mark the first major product launch under new Chief Executive Officer John Ternus .

Ternus, who previously served as Apple's senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, took over the CEO role from Tim Cook on September 1, with Cook transitioning to executive chairman.

The most anticipated announcement is Apple's long-rumored entry into the foldable smartphone market. The device is expected to be called the iPhone Ultra, a name reportedly used internally at Apple.

Rumors and leaked dummy models suggest a book-style design featuring a 5.5-inch outer OLED display that opens to a 7.8-inch inner screen, comparable in size to an iPad mini.

[Apple ](https://alitoday.com/tag/apple/)is said to be using a titanium and aluminum body with a liquid-metal hinge , while Samsung is reportedly manufacturing the OLED screens .

In a significant departure, the foldable device is rumored to forgo Face ID due to space constraints in the slim design. Instead, it will reportedly use Touch ID integrated into the side power button .

The camera system is also expected to differ from Apple's Pro models, with a dual-camera setup (Wide and Ultra Wide) on the rear and no telephoto lens. To accommodate the device's changing dimensions, Apple has reportedly encouraged developers to prepare apps for various screen sizes and aspect ratios.

The foldable iPhone is expected to be Apple's most expensive device, with forecasts placing the starting price between $2,000 and $2,500 . Initial supply is projected to be extremely limited, with availability potentially restricted to the United States at launch.

Alongside the foldable, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

These models are anticipated to retain the design of their predecessors, with most upgrades being internal. The devices are rumored to be powered by a new A20 Pro chip manufactured on a 2nm process, promising improvements in performance and power efficiency.

The Pro models may feature a variable-aperture main camera, a first for the iPhone. This technology would allow users to adjust the aperture to control light intake and depth of field.

There is uncertainty over whether this feature will be exclusive to the Pro Max model.

New color options are also expected, including a dark cherry shade, light blue, and silver, with reports suggesting black will not be available.

Other rumored features for the Pro models include a smaller Dynamic Island , a simplified Camera Control button , and a larger battery, with the Pro Max possibly receiving a 5,567mAh battery.

The standard iPhone 18 model is not expected to be announced at this event, with reports suggesting its launch is delayed until early 2027.

Beyond hardware, Apple is expected to announce the release dates for its next major software updates, including iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, tvOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27.

Apple will stream the event live on YouTube, its website, and the Apple TV app.
