# Apple iPhone 17 Pro Survives Record 30,607-Metre Fall in Sweden

**SWEDEN :** An [iPhone 17 Pro](https://alitoday.com/tag/iphone-17-pro/) has reportedly survived a fall from more than 30 kilometres above the ground, setting a new Guinness World Records mark for the highest fall of a mobile phone in a protective case onto a natural landscape.

The extreme test was carried out by phone case maker RhinoShield in partnership with aerospace company Sent Into Space to test its new AirX protective case.

### iPhone dropped from 30,607 metres

The iPhone 17 Pro was lifted over Kiruna, Sweden, using a stratospheric balloon before being released from a height of **30,607 metres**.

The phone fell without a parachute or additional protective layers and reportedly spent around **25 minutes** falling toward the ground. During the test, it faced temperatures as low as **-60°C**.

After the fall, the smartphone was found in the Swedish wilderness.

The search reportedly took more than five hours after a tracker narrowed down its location to an area of around two kilometres.

### Fully functional

According to the report, the iPhone was still working after landing. It could turn on, take photos and receive calls, while the device and its case showed no visible damage.

Guinness World Records recorded the achievement as the “highest fall of a mobile phone in a case onto a natural landscape.”

The record required the protective case to make contact with the ground first.

### AirX case

The test was designed to demonstrate the protection offered by[ RhinoShield's AirX case](https://rhinoshield.co/products/airx/buy/?srsltid=AfmBOoorxrUXRj_X5ZshIGucYXXnC399E2SUwHFCntMzUJZCMvnQdX9v).

The company says the case uses a single recyclable material and takes inspiration from car airbags and the cushioning systems used in athletic shoes.

The unusual test highlights how modern phone cases can be designed to absorb and spread impact energy even in an extreme fall from the edge of the stratosphere.
