UP : AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi appeared before a court in Hapur on Thursday to record his statement in connection with a 2022 firing case involving an alleged attack on his convoy.
According to officials, tight security was arranged at the Hapur district court and nearby areas during Owaisi’s visit. Additional police personnel were deployed around the court, while special arrangements were made for the MP’s movement.
Additional Superintendent of Police Vineet Bhatnagar said, “tight security arrangements were in place” at the court complex and surrounding areas because of Owaisi’s appearance.
What happened in 2022?
The incident took place on February 3, 2022, when Owaisi was returning to Delhi after campaigning for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
According to the police, shots were allegedly fired at his convoy near the Chhijarsi toll plaza in Pilkhuwa, along the Delhi-Meerut highway. Asaduddin Owaisi escaped the attack without injuries.
Police later arrested Sachin, a resident of Duriyaai in Gautam Buddh Nagar, and Shubham, from Sapla Begampur in Saharanpur’s Nakur area, in connection with the case.
During questioning, the two accused allegedly told police that the weapons used in the attack had been supplied by Alim, a resident of Radhna village in Meerut’s Mundali area.
Alim was later arrested and booked under Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code for criminal conspiracy.
All three accused are currently out on bail.
60 witnesses named in chargesheet
The chargesheet filed in the case lists 60 witnesses, including 12 police personnel.
The case has remained pending before the court since the 2022 incident.
Asaduddin Owaisi’s appearance on Thursday was part of the ongoing legal proceedings, with the court recording his statement in the case.
The security arrangements were strengthened around the court as authorities prepared for the AIMIM chief’s arrival and departure.
