An American tech entrepreneur and the founder of SpaceX, who owns Internet Satellite services with the name “Starlink,” launched in Bangladesh on Tuesday.

Starlink is known for providing high-speed internet service via satellite, was announced in January 2015 to provide high-speed, low-latency internet globally, especially in rural and remote areas.

Development began in 2014, with the first test satellites, TinTinA and TinTinB, launched in February 2018. Meanwhile, SpaceX’s Starlink has rapidly expanded its satellite internet services, offering high-speed connectivity to over 100 countries.

Starlink has deployed over 7,000 satellites, reaching 4 million subscribers and transforming internet access, particularly in remote and underserved regions.

“Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency internet is now available in Bangladesh,” the company posted on X.

Starlink internet service is now available with monthly packages starting at 4,200 taka ($35), said Yunus aside Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, and with a one-time payment of 47,000 taka required for the installation of the equipment.

“This has created a sustainable alternative for premium customers to get high-quality and high-speed internet services,” he added in a Facebook post.

In August, Nobel Peace Laureate Yunus became the leader of Bangladesh’s interim government after Hasina fled to India. Last July, authorities shut down internet and text messaging services as protests spread nationwide. Starlink has quickly expanded its services.
