# iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max With Variable Aperture Camera and A20 Pro Chip

**NEW YORK **: [Apple ](https://www.apple.com/apple-events/event-stream/)has launched the [iPhone 18 Pro ](https://alitoday.com/tag/iphone-18-pro/)and iPhone 18 Pro Max at its 'Surprise and Shine' event in Cupertino, California, on Wednesday.

The new Pro models feature a variable-aperture main camera, the A20 Pro chip built on a 2nm process, and a smaller Dynamic Island that can display up to three Live Activities simultaneously .

Apple has not announced a base iPhone 18 model this year, with the standard model reportedly pushed to an early 2027 launch.

The new Pro models are available in four colours: Deep Black, Refined Silver, Glacier Blue, and a new Burgundy colour .

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 for the 256GB model, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299. Apple is also introducing a new 2TB storage option. Both models feature a next-generation vapor chamber with three times the surface area of the previous generation, designed to manage heat more efficiently .

The A20 Pro chip features a 6-core CPU with two new 'desktop-class' super cores that are up to 20 percent faster, along with four efficiency cores.

Apple says the new super cores are the fastest CPU cores in any smartphone . Siri AI will be available in beta this month in English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish .

[Apple ](https://alitoday.com/tag/apple/)says the iPhone 18 Pro Max delivers the biggest battery-life improvement ever seen on an iPhone, offering up to 45 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro offers up to 36 hours. For typical use, the iPhone 18 Pro provides up to 24 hours of battery life per charge, while the Pro Max offers up to 30 hours.

Wired charging has also been improved, with the iPhone reaching 50 percent charge in around 15 minutes, and just five minutes of wired charging providing up to six hours of video playback .

The iPhone 18 Pro introduces a new Pro Controls feature that gives users manual control over camera settings, including white balance, aperture, shutter speed, and a histogram view.

Apple says the new features make the iPhone 18 Pro suitable for everything from professional film sets to everyday photography . The new camera system features a 48-megapixel Fusion main camera with a variable aperture that automatically adjusts based on lighting conditions .

The variable-aperture system uses six laser-cut blades, each thinner than a human hair, made from a specialized polymer composite.

In darker environments, the aperture opens wider to let in around 50 percent more light, improving detail and color range. Time-lapse video now supports 4K resolution in Dolby Vision HDR, and Cinematic mode effects can be applied to regular video after recording .
