**San Francisco **: [Meta ](https://www.meta.ai/)has confirmed that more than 20,000 [Instagram ](https://alitoday.com/tag/instagram/)accounts were compromised after hackers exploited a vulnerability in the company's AI-assisted account recovery system, raising fresh concerns about online security and account protection.
According to a data breach notification filed with U.S. authorities, the incident affected 20,225 Instagram users and involved a flaw in Meta's High Touch Support (HTS) system, an AI-powered tool designed to help users recover access to locked accounts.
Meta said it discovered the vulnerability on May 31, although investigators believe the breach may have started as early as April 17.
The company has since secured the affected accounts and implemented measures to prevent further unauthorized access.
### How the Breach Happened
The security issue was not caused by the account recovery tool itself but by a bug elsewhere in the system. During password reset requests submitted through HTS, the platform reportedly failed to verify whether the email address provided matched the one originally linked to the [Instagram ](https://alitoday.com/tag/instagram/)account.
As a result, password reset links could be sent to email addresses controlled by attackers instead of legitimate account owners.

"The tool itself worked properly and functioned as intended; however due to a bug in a separate code path, the system did not properly verify that the email address provided by the individual requesting a password reset matched the email address associated with that user’s Instagram account," said Meta in its breach notice.
"As a result, when an individual provided an email address not previously associated with the account, the system incorrectly sent a password reset link to that unassociated email rather than rejecting the request. This allowed unauthorized third parties to receive a password reset link for accounts they did not own," the company added.
Meta also confirmed that it will fix the verification process before relaunching the recovery tool and is conducting a broader review of similar account recovery systems across its platforms to identify any related vulnerabilities.

The man, identified as Jeetu Munda, reportedly took the extreme step after repeated attempts to access approximately ₹20,000 (around $211) from the account of his sister, Kalra Munda, who passed away in January at the age of 56.
According to reports, Munda claimed he was repeatedly asked by bank staff to provide proof of the account holder’s death.
Frustrated by his inability to meet documentation requirements, he dug up her grave and brought the remains to a branch of [Odisha Grameen Bank ](https://odishabank.bank.in/)in Keonjhar district.
“I have run several times to the bank, and the people there told me to bring the account holder to withdraw money deposited in her name.” Munda said
“Though I told them that she had died, they did not listen to me and insisted on bringing her to the bank. Therefore, out of frustration, I dug up the grave and brought out her skeleton as proof of her death.” he added
Local authorities said the incident highlights a gap in awareness and communication.
“Jeetu is an illiterate tribal man. He does not know what the legal heir or nominee is. The bank officials have failed to make him understand the procedure to withdraw money from the dead person’s account.” Police official Kiran Prasad Sahu explained,

According to the Worli Police Station, a case has been registered and an investigation is currently underway.
Officials stated that after the alleged hacking, [Waris Pathan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waris_Pathan) began receiving calls from unidentified individuals who demanded ₹5 lakh.
The callers allegedly warned that private photographs of him and his family would be digitally altered and circulated publicly if the payment was not made.
Police sources said the accused contacted Pathan using three different international phone numbers and issued repeated threats during multiple calls.
Preliminary findings suggest that the origin of these calls may be linked to Cambodia, although officials clarified that this aspect is still under verification.
The incident reportedly began on April 16, when Pathan’s social media account was compromised. Following this, the perpetrators allegedly accessed personal images and threatened to misuse them.

A Muslim street vendor from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, has alleged that he was publicly harassed during the recent Medaram Jathara after a group of YouTubers accused him of engaging in what they called “food jihad.”
The incident reportedly occurred when a team claiming to be from Tejaswi News approached the vendor, identified as Shaik Shaiksha Vali, and began questioning him about the food he was selling at the festival.
According to Vali, the group demanded that he prove the food was safe and legitimate. He was allegedly forced to eat his own food on camera to counter the accusations.
During the confrontation, Vali explained that he was only responsible for selling the items and did not handle their preparation. “I only sell here, I don’t know where the bread gets made,” he told the YouTubers, adding that the ingredients were arranged by his employer.

The memo, written in 2020, formed part of an FBI investigation into domestic or foreign influence over the US electoral process.
It draws on information from a confidential human source (CHS) and appears among a vast trove of Epstein-related files released by the US Justice Department.
“CHS advised Chabad is doing everything they can to co-opt the Trump presidency,” the memo states regarding his first term.
Chabad-Lubavitch, a hardline religious Jewish sect founded in Russia, has grown to an estimated 90,000 members. Its messianic, ultra-Orthodox ideology has repeatedly been linked to hardline settler colonial politics in Palestine.
The memo also cites Berel Lazar, a Chabad member and the former chief rabbi of Russia, describing him as a close adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Chabad is basically state-sanctioned Judaism. It is used by Putin to keep tabs on all the Russo-Jewish oligarchs,” the FBI memo adds.
It identifies Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, as a supporter of the group and a key force within Trump’s inner circle.

“On the day Trump was elected President, Ivanka Trump and Jared [Kushner] were at the gravesite of Rabbi Schneerson [sic], who was the most powerful Rabbi in the Chabad network,” the memo states.
The source goes further, saying: “Trump has been compromised by Israel. And Kushner is the real brains behind his organization and his Presidency.”
The memo also says Epstein worked with US and foreign intelligence. “CHS became convinced Epstein was a co-opted Mossad Agent,” it says, pointing to prior FBI reporting.
“Epstein was close to the former Prime Minister of Israel, Ehud Barak, and trained as a spy under him,” the memo adds.

Born in 1280 into a royal family, Mansa Musa rose to power after his brother, Mansa Abu-Bakr, disappeared during a mysterious Atlantic expedition around 1312.
As reported in TOI, Abu-Bakr reportedly set sail with 2,000 ships, carrying thousands of people, and was never seen again.
While some historians have speculated that the expedition may have reached South America, there is no conclusive evidence to support the claim.

An MIM worker was reportedly injured while trying to protect the leader during the attack.
Police personnel deployed in the area intervened to control the situation and resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the two sides. The situation was later brought under control, officials said.
AIMIM leaders accused Congress candidate Kaleem Qureshi of orchestrating the attack. They also alleged that BJP ministers Atul Save and Sanjay Shirsat were involved.
Jaleel’s party claimed they had anticipated trouble and informed the police in advance, but alleged that adequate security arrangements were not made.
