# Saudi Aramco’s Jizan Facilities Hit in Fresh Attack, Damage Being Assessed

**RIYADH **: Saudi Aramco's oil facilities in [Jizan ](https://alitoday.com/tag/jizan/)were struck on Monday in a fresh attack, with the extent of the damage still being assessed, according to a report from the Financial Times citing two people with knowledge of the matter.

The Jizan complex includes a refinery capable of processing approximately 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day, along with associated processing plants and energy infrastructure .

One source described the latest attack as similar in scale to last month's strike on July 27, which temporarily disrupted production at the refinery after Houthi militants damaged the plant's Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle complex and tank farm area.

Saudi authorities and Aramco have not yet provided an official confirmation or comment on the incident .

The Iran-backed [Houthi ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houthis)movement from Yemen, which has previously claimed responsibility for attacks on Aramco sites in Jizan and Yanbu, has not claimed responsibility for Monday's strike .

The Houthis declared a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea in July in response to what they described as a Saudi siege of Yemen, an allegation Riyadh denies, and have since launched a series of drone and missile attacks against the kingdom's energy infrastructure.

The attack comes against a backdrop of escalating conflict along Yemen's Red Sea coast.

Over the weekend, Houthi forces launched a ground offensive, with fighting reported around the historic port of Mocha and the city of Taiz, forcing thousands of Yemenis to flee their homes in the fiercest fighting in six years.

The renewed offensive pits the Houthis against Saudi-backed forces aligned with Yemen's internationally recognised government and has raised concerns over the security of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a crucial maritime chokepoint that has become increasingly important for Saudi oil exports after Iran restricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz .

The fresh strike added to upward pressure on already elevated oil prices. Brent crude rose approximately 1.2 percent on Monday to around $97.40 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude traded near six-week highs.

Goldman Sachs has warned that oil prices could rise as high as $120 a barrel if attacks on shipping intensify.

[Saudi Aramco](https://alitoday.com/tag/saudi-aramco/) chief executive Amin Nasser said last month that recent attacks had caused some interruptions to production but had no material operational or financial impact and that operations could be restored quickly.

The Jizan refinery also produces refined products including gasoline and ultra-light sulfur diesel .
