# Trump Claims Paris Will Become a ‘Muslim City,’ Blames Immigration for Unrest in France

**WASHINGTON, D.C. —** President Donald Trump has blamed immigration for the recent unrest in France, claiming that Paris will soon become a “Muslim city” and urging French President [Emmanuel Macron](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmanuel_Macron) to tighten the country’s borders.

“Paris is going to be a Muslim city very soon, and that wasn’t the deal,” Trump told reporters on Monday.

Trump said he had warned Macron about immigration policies years ago, arguing that immigration not other social or economic factors was responsible for the turmoil.

“The France thing is a very sad situation. What’s happening in France has to do with immigration, not schools, not anything. It’s immigration,” Trump said.

“I told President Macron, ‘Close up your borders!’” he added.

### Economic Protests

The remarks came as France faced unrest following demonstrations over the rising cost of living and mounting economic pressures.

According to figures cited by French authorities in *[The Observer Post](https://theobserverpost.com/trump-says-paris-will-become-muslim-city-blames-immigration-for-unrest-in-france/)* report, nearly 2,400 people had been arrested, around 3,000 businesses were reportedly affected, and nearly 1,000 police officers and gendarmes were injured.

Authorities introduced localized curfews and restrictions on public gatherings in parts of Paris and other cities in an effort to prevent further violence.

The protests were organized around economic and social grievances, including the cost of living. Trump, however, attributed the unrest primarily to immigration.

### French Government Vows

French Prime Minister[ Sébastien Lecornu ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A9bastien_Lecornu)defended the government's decision to impose localized restrictions rather than nationwide measures.

“My determination to restore order is absolute,” Lecornu said, adding that he would not rule out declaring a state of emergency if the situation required it.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez acknowledged failures in the authorities’ preparations, saying police had “lost control” of the situation in some cities.

Nuñez offered his resignation, but Macron rejected it.

The French president called for transparency over security and intelligence failures and condemned the destruction during the unrest.

“Nothing justifies it, nothing explains it, nothing excuses it,” Macron said.

### Immigration

Trump’s comments add to a broader political debate over immigration in Europe and the United States.

His remarks linked the French unrest to immigration, even as the demonstrations described in the report were driven by economic grievances.

The comments also put a spotlight on the distinction between public concerns over immigration and the specific causes of protests, which can include economic hardship, public policy and dissatisfaction with government decisions.

French authorities continue to face pressure to restore order and address the damage caused by the violence.
