# Two People in Saudi Injured, One died after drone debris fall in Taif

**JEDDAH **: [Saudi Arabia](https://alitoday.com/tag/saudi-arabia/) authorities say debris from an intercepted drone fell over populated areas, killing a Yemeni resident and injuring a Saudi woman and a Pakistani resident

One person was killed and two others were injured on Thursday after debris from an intercepted drone fell over populated areas in Taif, Saudi Arabia, according to Saudi authorities and state media.

Saudi Civil Defence said emergency teams responded after air defences intercepted and destroyed a drone that authorities said had been launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement.

The falling debris damaged several buildings and vehicles in the area.

The person killed was identified as a Yemeni resident.

A Saudi woman and a Pakistani resident were also injured, with the Pakistani national reported to be in critical condition.

The [Houthis ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houthis)had not immediately claimed responsibility for the incident, while Saudi authorities attributed the drone launch to the group.

### Saudi-Houthi Tensions

The incident comes amid a sharp escalation in fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement.

Reuters reported that Saudi Arabia and Houthi forces exchanged fresh strikes on Thursday, while the wider conflict has raised concerns about regional security and key shipping routes.

A day earlier, Saudi authorities said they had intercepted and destroyed another drone south of Mecca before it entered the city’s restricted airspace.

The Houthis denied targeting Mecca or other holy sites.

The latest incident marks the first death publicly reported by Saudi Arabia this month amid the intensified Houthi attacks. Saudi authorities have previously reported more than 80 people injured in the recent attacks.

The escalation is also being closely watched because of its potential impact on the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb shipping routes, as well as Saudi Arabia’s oil infrastructure and exports.
