# What is Mecca Joint Defence Agreement? Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye Sign Defence Pact

**MECCA :** Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye have signed a new joint defence agreement aimed at strengthening military cooperation and collective security amid growing tensions in the Middle East.

The [Mecca Joint Defence Agreement](http://Mecca Joint Defence Agreement) was signed in Mecca on August 7, 2026. The pact brings together three strategically important countries with significant economic, military and geopolitical influence.

### What does the agreement say?

The key part of the agreement is its mutual defence principle.

An armed attack against any one of the three countries will be treated as an attack against all three.

This means Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to support each other in the event of external aggression. The arrangement has drawn comparisons with NATO's collective-defence principle, although the new pact does not have NATO's integrated military command structure.

The agreement is expected to increase cooperation in areas such as military planning, defence coordination, security and strategic preparedness.

The inclusion of Pakistan also gives the new grouping added significance from India's strategic perspective.
