American writer and activist Jeffery Shaun King and his wife Rai King has converted to Islam on the first day of Ramadan 1445 AH-2024.
In a Instagram live broadcast shared by US-based ‘Professor’ Khaled Beydoun on Monday, Match 11, shows Shaun and Rai pronouncing Shahadah, a testament of faith, with the help of US Muslim scholar and activist Omar Suleiman.
44-year-old Shaun, best known for his advocacy of movements associated with the Democratic Party such as Black Lives Matter.
On December 25, Shaun King, a prominent activist with over six million followers on Instagram, revealed that his account had been banned by the platform. He attributed the ban to his outspoken support for Palestine amidst the ongoing conflict with Israel.
Expressing his frustration, Shaun King highlighted Instagram’s action as a response to his advocacy for Palestinian rights and dignity.
Since October 7, he had been consistently sharing pro-Palestine content, drawing attention to the devastation in the Gaza Strip and condemning Israel’s military actions.
Shaun’s ban sparked debate and criticism, with many supporters echoing concerns about censorship and the silencing of voices advocating for justice in the region.
