Asaduddin Owaisi, the four-time Member of Parliament and leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has emerged triumphant once again in the Lok Sabha elections. Running for a fifth consecutive term from the Hyderabad constituency in Telangana, Owaisi secured an impressive victory with a massive margin of 6,61,981 votes, as announced by the Election Commission of India.
The initial results revealed that Owaisi’s closest contender for the seat was Madhavi Latha, the candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who garnered 3,23,894 votes. Hyderabad has long been a stronghold for the AIMIM, with Owaisi successfully holding the seat for four consecutive terms since 2004. Prior to his reign, his father, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, held the position for an impressive six consecutive terms from 1984 to 1999. In the 2019 elections, Owaisi secured a significant victory with a commanding vote share of 58.95%.
His opponent from the BJP, Bhagavanth Rao, managed to gather 26.8% of the votes. The Hyderabad constituency comprises seven assembly segments, including Charminar, Karwan, Goshamahal, Malakpet, Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura, and Bahadurpura.

The Lok Sabha polls for this constituency took place during the fourth phase on May 13, witnessing a decent voter turnout of 48.48%. Apart from his political endeavors, Owaisi is a barrister by profession and pursued his studies at Lincoln’s Inn in London. His political journey began in 1994, and he has since won two terms as an MLA from the Charminar assembly constituency in undivided Andhra Pradesh.
In recent years, Owaisi has emerged as a prominent figure associated with Muslim leadership, although he himself denies such a label. He often refers to the BJP and Congress as two sides of the same coin. Furthermore, AIMIM, along with the Apna Dal (Kamerawadi), Pragatisheel Manav Samaj Party (PMSP), and Rashtriya Uday Party (RUP), has formed the PDM Nyay Morcha in Uttar Pradesh, showcasing their commitment to coalition-building and political alliances.
Asaduddin Owaisi’s remarkable victory in Hyderabad solidifies his political standing and reinforces AIMIM’s stronghold in the region, further shaping the dynamics of Indian politics. The recently formed alliance aims to voice the concerns of marginalized communities such as tribals, Dalits, and Muslims in the state. The Lok Sabha elections, which encompassed 543 seats, took place in seven phases from April 19 to June 1. The Bharatiya Janata Party is striving for an uncommon third consecutive term in power, with Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister.
