Kampala, Uganda — New York State Assembly member Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic Socialist known for his grassroots activism and progressive policies, recently tied the knot in a stunning and ultra-private wedding ceremony in Uganda.
The wedding, held at a luxury resort near Kampala, featured an array of high-security measures, including masked guards, strict no-phone policies, and even signal jammers to ensure absolute privacy.
“Guests were asked to leave their phones at the entrance,” said one attendee on the condition of anonymity. “There were security men in black with covered faces, and no one was allowed to record anything. It felt more like a state affair than a wedding.”
According to sources, included high-end traditional Ugandan and Indian cultural elements, and was attended by a mix of political allies, family, and select high-profile guests. The guest list was tightly controlled, with confidentiality reportedly emphasized from the moment of invitation.

Zohran Mamdani, 33, is the son of renowned Ugandan academic Mahmood Mamdani and celebrated filmmaker Mira Nair. His political rise has often been rooted in championing transparency, working-class struggles, and anti-capitalist values something critics are now pointing out in contrast to the opulence of the recent event.
“There’s nothing wrong with celebrating love,” said one critic on social media. “But the secrecy, extravagance, and ironclad privacy seem at odds with the image he’s cultivated back in New York.”
Photos from the wedding have been scarce, fueling speculation and curiosity. However, those who attended describe the event as a “cultural spectacle,” featuring live performers, designer decor, and a tightly orchestrated ceremony.

Despite online criticism, Mamdani’s supporters have defended the celebration as a private family event, separate from his public life.
“Politicians are human too,” said a family friend. “Zohran has devoted years to public service. This was his moment — and he deserved to celebrate in peace, with dignity.”
Zohran Mamdani has not publicly commented on the wedding as of this writing. Attempts to reach his office for an official statement were unsuccessful.
While the event has certainly turned heads, it also reignites the perennial debate about how public figures balance private opulence with public principles especially in the age of social media and political scrutiny.
