Reports from the United Nations shed light on the alarming plight faced by hundreds of Palestinian Girls and women in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. These individuals have been subjected to arbitrary detention by the Israeli army, enduring egregious human rights violations.
“Palestinian women and girls in detention have been subjected to multiple forms of sexual assault, such as being stripped naked and searched by male Israeli army officers,” the experts said in a statement on Monday.
“At least two female Palestinian detainees were reportedly raped while others were reportedly threatened with rape and sexual violence,” the experts added.
According to the UN experts, these violations include harrowing accounts of rape, severe beatings, and the denial of basic necessities such as food and medicine. The situation paints a grim picture of the realities faced by Palestinian women and girls in the region.

Since October 7, hundreds of Palestinian women and girls from Gaza and the occupied West Bank have been forcibly detained by the Israeli army, as revealed by a recent report from seven UN experts.
Among those detained are human rights activists, journalists, and aid workers, who have detailed disturbing accounts of mistreatment, including severe beatings and denial of basic necessities such as food, medicine, and menstrual pads. Some have even reported being photographed in humiliating situations, with these images shared online by the Israeli army.
In one particularly shocking incident, a Palestinian woman in Gaza was allegedly left without food, confined in a cage outdoors during harsh weather conditions.
In light of these troubling reports, the UN experts have called for an impartial investigation into the matter, urging Tel Aviv to cooperate fully with the inquiries.

The experts, including UN special rapporteurs Reem Alsalem and Francesca Albanese, are part of the largest body of independent experts in the United Nations human rights system.
According to information they received, Palestinian women and girls have also been deliberately targeted and executed in Gaza, often alongside family members and their children “in places where they sought refuge or while fleeing”
“Some of them were reportedly holding white pieces of cloth when they were killed by the Israeli army or affiliated forces.”
In addition, they said the whereabouts of a number of Palestinian women and children in Gaza following contact with the Israeli army are unknown.
“There are disturbing reports of at least one female infant forcibly transferred by the Israeli army into Israel, and of children being separated from their parents, whose whereabouts remain unknown,” they said.
