Dubai: Retailers in the UAE are preparing for a surge of international customers as Apple’s latest devices—the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air hit shelves on September 19.

Why the UAE?High Demand Expected

Traders expect buyers from India, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and other regions to fly into the country to be among the first to own the new models.

“We already have three bookings from international customers and expect more once the launch happens,” said Mohammad Razik of Right Exit Phones Trading at Al Attar Shopping Mall.

Apple unveiled the new iPhone lineup on September 9, calling it the biggest update in eight years. The standout device, the iPhone Air, is the thinnest phone Apple has ever produced, featuring a titanium frame and pro-level performance.

Pre-orders in the UAE opened on September 12 and sold out within minutes. Prices begin at Dh4,299 for the iPhone Air, Dh4,699 for the iPhone 17, and Dh5,099 for the iPhone 17 Pro.

Why the UAE?

Experts say the UAE’s accessibility, larger supply, and competitive pricing make it a hotspot for early buyers. “The UAE will have more devices available, making it easier to get one here,” said Mohammed Shareef, owner of Extel Mobiles.

He noted that many Indian customers prefer traveling to Dubai or Abu Dhabi, both for convenience and availability. “It’s just a short flight, and people often combine it with a short vacation,” he added.

Price differences are also a key factor. Indian expat Rahib Mohammed explained that buying in Dubai was more cost-effective than in India.

“An iPhone 17 Pro with 2TB storage costs Dh8,499 in the UAE. In India, it’s nearly Dh9,500 due to taxes. With AppleCare included, I still pay less here,” he said.

High Demand Expected

Retailers anticipate strong demand on launch day, with some buyers reportedly willing to pay double to get the devices early. Deliveries for the first batch are scheduled to begin September 19.

Ashish Panjabi, COO of Jacky’s BrandShop, said the UAE’s status as a phase-one launch market will attract buyers from countries where sales start later. However, he stressed that sellers will prioritize genuine customers over bulk buyers and resellers.
