On Tuesday morning, many users worldwide faced difficulties accessing Meta’s social media platforms Instagram, Facebook, and Threads.
The outage particularly affected Facebook and Threads, with neither app loading for users as of 10 a.m. ET. Instagram also experienced issues, with some users unable to refresh their feeds. Many Facebook users reported being unable to log in.
A Meta spokesperson, Andy Stone, acknowledged the problem, stating, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”
The outages come on the same day as the Super Tuesday presidential primaries in the U.S., potentially impacting presidential campaigns that heavily rely on these platforms to reach voters.
The hashtags “#instagramdown” and “#facebookoutage” trended on social media platforms. Meta’s stock shares saw a decline of more than 1% in response to the outages.
In addition to the social media platforms, Meta is experiencing disruptions across its Meta Admin Center, Facebook login, WhatsApp Business API, and Marketing API, according to the company’s status website.

Google’s YouTube also confirmed issues, including loading problems, a blank homepage, and errors with YouTube Shorts. Google directed users to its “Help Community” post for further information.
Furthermore, some users encountered problems with Google’s Gmail, such as delays in email delivery, according to the company’s status dashboard. It remains unclear if these issues are related to the Meta outages.
This isn’t the first time Meta has faced such problems. In 2021, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp were down for over six hours due to “configuration changes on backbone routers,” according to Meta.
It’s uncertain when Tuesday’s outages will be resolved, leaving users waiting for updates on when they can access these popular social media platforms again.
