Hassan Eslaih was a prominent Palestinian journalist and photographer based in Gaza.
He was the director of the Alam24 News Agency and a freelancer who contributed to international news organisations, including photos of the Hamas-led October 7 attack.
He is known for his work with outlets like Mondoweiss and Palestine Today. He gained recognition for documenting the harsh realities of life in Gaza, amassing a significant social media following.
The Government Media Office in Gaza condemns “in the strongest terms the systematic targeting, killing and assassination of Palestinian journalists” by Israeli forces and confirms the death of journalist Hassan Eslaih.
“We hold the Israeli occupation, the US administration, and the countries participating in the crime of genocide, such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, fully responsible for committing this heinous, brutal crime,” it added.

A day after killing at least 39 people in attacks across the Strip, Israeli forces bombed the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, assassinating journalist Hassan Eslaih.
Posts on X and reports indicate Eslaih succumbed to his injuries on May 13, 2025, in the burns unit of Nasser Medical Complex, with colleagues mourning him as a kind and trusted figure.
The Israeli military claimed the strike targeted Eslaih, alleging he was a Hamas operative posing as a journalist, a claim disputed by Gaza’s media office and local journalists.
On April 7, 2025, Eslaih was critically injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a media tent outside Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, which killed two others, including journalist Hilmi al-Faqaawi, and wounded several more.
His death adds to the over 200 journalists killed in Gaza since October 2023, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
