On Sunday, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported that the Sahand destroyer, which was being repaired in a port near the Strait of Hormuz, had sunk due to water infiltration into the tanks.
The news agency mentioned that the destroyer lost its balance, and it was possible to bring it back to balance, given the low depth in the waters.
The news agency reported that injured individuals were taken to a hospital, but it did not provide further details on the matter.

The Sahand destroyer, named after a mountain in northern Iran, was constructed over a span of six years and was launched into the Persian Gulf in December 2018.
Weighing 1,300 tons, the vessel was equipped with various missile systems, anti-aircraft batteries, and advanced radar technology designed to evade detection.
It is worth noting that a similar incident occurred in January 2018 when another naval destroyer, the Damavand, sank in the Caspian Sea after colliding with a breakwater.
