Menlo Park, CA– Meta, the company behind Facebook, has unveiled a new initiative named the “Facebook Content Monetization Program” which began its beta phase on October 2, 2024.
This program merges three previous monetization options – In-stream ads, Ads on Reels, and the Performance Bonus – into one comprehensive system aimed at making it easier for content creators to earn money from their posts, regardless of format.
The announcement comes in light of Facebook’s commitment to fostering a lucrative environment for its creators.
Since launching monetization tools in 2017, over four million creators have benefited financially, with Meta reporting a payout of over $2 billion in the last year alone, marking an 80% increase in earnings from short-form content like reels.
The need for this new program arose from the complexities of the existing monetization schemes which varied in availability, eligibility, and application processes.

This often led to creators missing out on potential earnings or not qualifying for all monetization avenues. Meta’s research showed that only about one-third of creators were utilizing more than one monetization program, a gap the new system hopes to bridge.
How It Works
The beta program requires creators to sign up for just one program to monetize various types of content including videos, reels, photos, and text posts. It maintains the performance-based payout model of its predecessors, ensuring creators are rewarded based on the engagement their content receives.
Eligibility and Rollout
Currently, the beta is an invitation-only phase, with one million invitations already dispatched to existing monetizing creators. Meta plans a phased rollout with more invites to follow.
While general access is slated for 2025, creators can now show interest in early access through the Facebook for Creators platform.
Future of Monetization on Facebook
With the eventual phasing out of the old programs by 2025, the new system will become the standard for content monetization on Facebook. During the beta, participation remains optional for those invited.

Content and Compliance
Eligible content for monetization under this program must adhere to Meta’s strict policies, ensuring all monetized content is public and complies with both the Partner Monetization Policies and Content Monetization Policies.
A Step Forward for Creators
This initiative marks a pivotal development in Meta’s strategy to empower creators by reducing the barriers to monetization. By streamlining the process, Meta aims to not only keep current creators engaged but also to attract new talent to the platform, fostering a diverse content ecosystem.
