Jaunpur, UP – A pregnant Muslim woman has accused a lady doctor at Jaunpur district hospital of refusing to deliver her baby due to religious bias, prompting outrage and calls for an investigation into alleged anti-Muslim discrimination in the region.
Shama Parveen, admitted around 9 a.m. on Tuesday for labor pains, claimed in a video circulating on social media that the doctor denied her treatment despite her evident distress.
“I lay on the bed, but the doctor refused to treat me and even told others not to send me to the operation theater,” Parveen alleged.
Her husband, Arman, corroborated the account in a separate video, stating the doctor systematically overlooked Muslim patients.
“The doctor checked all the patients but refused to attend to two Muslim women, including my wife. She deliberately skipped them,” he said.
Parveen further detailed confronting the doctor about the bias. “I told her she was differentiating between Hindus and Muslims, but still she ignored me,” she claimed.
The incident, which unfolded late Tuesday night, has fueled concerns over rising communal tensions in Jaunpur, a district in eastern Uttar Pradesh known for sporadic reports of religious friction.
Local health officials have yet to respond publicly, but community leaders and activists are demanding swift action, including a formal probe and disciplinary measures against the doctor.
