Salwan Sabah Matti Momika, an Iraqi refugee known for criticizing the Quran and burning it publicly, has been found dead in Norway.
He moved to Norway seeking safety after being deported from Sweden for his controversial actions. Momika’s Quran burnings caused a lot of anger worldwide and even caused Sweden to delay its NATO entry.
He said he left Sweden because he was being mistreated by the authorities there. Momika’s death is the end of a person who sparked big discussions globally about free speech and refugee rights.

Momika was worried about being in danger if he went back to Iraq. Because of this, Norway let him stay longer until April 16, 2024, with a temporary permit.
