Jerusalem – ‘Israel’s’ military chief, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, warned on Sunday that the army would resume operations in Gaza if ongoing negotiations to secure the release of captives fail to deliver results.
“There is no ceasefire (at the moment), but the operational situation has changed, with the political level converting the tools and achievements you have gained through military action into political gains,” Zamir told soldiers stationed in Gaza.
He added, “If the political effort fails, we will return to fighting.” The remarks were released in an official statement by the military.

Zamir’s comments come as negotiations continue between mediators and Hamas following U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed cease-fire framework, which includes terms for a prisoner exchange and the withdrawal of ‘Israeli’ forces from the Gaza Strip.
The statement underscores the fragile nature of the current pause in large-scale hostilities and signals that military operations could resume if diplomatic talks stall.
