Chicago: Khamzat Chimaev delivered a career-defining performance at UFC 319, defeating Dricus Du Plessis in a one-sided fight to claim the UFC Middleweight Championship at the United Center.
From the opening bell, Chimaev imposed his trademark wrestling and relentless pressure, leaving Du Plessis with few opportunities to respond. All three judges scored the fight 50-44 in Chimaev’s favour, reflecting his complete control inside the Octagon.
Chimaev not only secured the belt but also set new UFC records during the bout. He landed over 500 strikes, executed 12 takedowns, and maintained more than 20 minutes of ground control numbers rarely seen in a title fight.
Although Du Plessis briefly threatened with a guillotine choke in the final round, Chimaev escaped and continued his domination until the final horn.
The victory keeps Chimaev undefeated at 15-0, cementing his place among the UFC’s elite. After the fight, Du Plessis showed respect for his opponent, congratulating the new champion and vowing to make a comeback.

The night also featured spectacular performances across the card. Lerone Murphy scored a spinning back-elbow knockout over Aaron Pico, while Carlos Prates stunned fans with his own spinning elbow finish against Geoff Neal. Tim Elliott added a technical submission victory, capping off a memorable evening for fight fans.
Chimaev now holding the middleweight crown, the spotlight turns to who will step up as his next challenger. For now, UFC fans are celebrating the arrival of a new and dominant champion.
