New York: American rapper Macklemore will take part in a Palestine solidarity protest in New York City this Saturday, August 16, organizers announced. The demonstration is scheduled for 2 p.m. (GMT-4) on the steps of the New York Public Library at Bryant Park.

The Seattle-born artist amplified the call on his Instagram story, encouraging public participation in what organizers describe as a response to the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The protest is being organized by the ANSWER Coalition, which in a statement condemned the “U.S.-Israeli blockade of Gaza,” saying it has created a hunger crisis that has already led to deaths from starvation and malnutrition. The group accused Washington of enabling what it called a “starvation regime” by tying aid to political conditions.

“Rather than addressing the humanitarian catastrophe, the U.S. government is working hand-in-hand with ‘Israel’ to impose full occupation on Gaza,” the coalition said. “We call on people from all walks of life to stand together against genocide and the U.S.-funded famine.”

Macklemore’s decision to participate adds a prominent cultural figure to the demonstration, underscoring how international celebrities are increasingly using their platforms to speak out on humanitarian and political issues.
