Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is trying really hard to hire talented people who know a lot about AI (artificial intelligence). He’s even sending personal emails to employees who work at Google’s DeepMind, asking them to come work for Facebook instead.
Two people who got these emails told a news site called The Information about it. The emails are special because Zuckerberg himself writes them and talks about how important AI is for Facebook.
Meta is also doing other things to get AI researchers to work for them. They’re skipping some parts of the usual hiring process and giving job offers directly to people they think are good. They’re also offering more money to current Meta employees who might want to work for a different AI company.

This shows how much companies like Meta want to hire smart and talented AI researchers. It’s becoming really competitive because there aren’t enough people with these skills.
In fact, there was a big conference about machine learning where lots of companies were trying to hire new talent. It’s not usual for someone as rich as Zuckerberg to personally try to hire people like this, but he’s not the only one doing it.

Summing up the churn was a podcast interview with AI company Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas.
“I tried to hire a very senior researcher from Meta, and you know what they said? ‘Come back to me when you have 10,000 H100 GPUs,‘” Srinivas said during an episode of the podcast “Invest Like the Best,” as spotted by Entrepreneur and referring to Nvidia’s red-hot chips that are currently powering the AI world.
Zuckerberg is spending a lot of money on AI to compete with Microsoft and OpenAI. They’re trying to get ahead because Microsoft and OpenAI are already ahead in this area.
Meta wants to get more than 340,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs. These are used to make AI work better. Meta plans to use AI in their apps like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, even if users don’t really ask for it.
