Meta blocks prominent Muslim news page on Instagram in India at the request of the Government of India. The Founder and CEO of Muslim (muslim.co), Ameer Al-Khatahbeh, said on Wednesday calling the action “Censorship,” as tensions rise between India and Pakistan.
Instagram users in India attempting to view posts from @Muslim, a page with 6.7 million followers, saw a message saying: “This account isn’t available in India. We blocked this content to follow a legal order.”
“I received hundreds of messages, emails and comments from our followers in India, that they cannot access our account,” Ameer Al-Khatahtbeh, the news account’s founder and editor-in-chief, said in a statement.

The @Muslim account is one of the top Muslim news pages on Instagram. Khatahtbeh said sorry to fans in India, stating: “When platforms and countries try to silence media, it tells us that we are doing our job in holding those in power accountable.”
“We will continue to document the truth and stand out firmly for justice,” he added, while calling on Meta to reinstate the account in India.
