Saudi Arabia "Pressing" US to drop strait of Hormuz blockade

Riyadh : Saudi Arabia is reportedly urging the USA to lift restrictions on Iranian ports, expressing concerns that continued pressure could escalate tensions in the region instead of encouraging negotiations.

According to a report citing regional officials, Riyadh fears that the blockade could provoke further instability and potentially impact key global shipping routes, particularly the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea.

A spokesperson said, “President Trump has been clear that he wants the Strait of Hormuz to be fully open to facilitate the free flow of energy.”

The statement added that the US administration remains in close contact with its Gulf allies and is working to prevent any disruption caused by Iran.

Saudi Arabia has already adjusted its oil export routes by redirecting shipments from the Strait of Hormuz toward its west coast and the Red Sea. However, analysts warn that this alternative route could also be at risk if tensions escalate further.

Experts have pointed to the possibility of disruptions in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a critical maritime corridor linking the Red Sea to global trade routes.

“If Iran does want to shut down Bab al-Mandeb, the Houthis are the obvious partner to do it.” noted by Adam Baron(Analyst)

The strait has previously seen disruptions, with shipping routes rerouted around Africa, leading to higher transportation costs and increased pressure on global oil prices.

The situation highlights growing concerns over the security of key energy routes, as geopolitical tensions continue to affect global trade and economic stability.
