Lucknow : A political controversy has erupted after AIMIM’s Uttar Pradesh president Haji Shaukat Ali made strong remarks during a public address, calling for greater political representation for Muslims.
Speaking to supporters, Shaukat Ali said, “We need just 11 MLAs, not 111,” emphasizing the need to build a focused political presence to safeguard community institutions such as mosques and madrasas. His comments quickly drew attention across political circles.
During his speech, Ali also raised concerns over what he described as unequal development and treatment.
He urged authorities to ensure balanced progress in cities like Meerut alongside places such as Gorakhpur and Saifai. He further called for fairness in handling religious gatherings, particularly regarding public prayers during festivals.
Alleging systemic issues, Ali claimed that Muslims were facing administrative challenges, including restrictions on madrasas and other actions affecting the community. He also criticized mainstream political parties, accusing them of failing to address these concerns.
